I just read an article on website promotion that at last had some practical tips. It the article at this link here > webmaster article writing . That's why I'm starting this webmaster articles page.
More articles will be added all the time because a) it is good for the site's SEO, and more importantly (karma wise) b) I think that I can give good advice to webmasters and website newbies and just ordinary people alike. These articles are all going to be between 200 and 500 words in length in accordance with the advice from Mr. Tabke's article
On top of writing these size optimised articles about webmastering I am already doing some of what he indicates is good for websites .
I already have a great domain name which lends itself to a lot of varied content. My games page and my translations page fit well with the name and the front page with all the varios Spiralcat logos seems to hang together very well..
Another good thing is that I can not afford Flash, and that's a good thing because the site is to be kept simple if Google is to crawl it properly.
My page size is already low, often about 5k, this is something Microsoft, my provider tells me, and being able to comply with something so technical makes me feel like a real webmaster.
I did however find some new bits of website advice:
One is to put in lots of page breaks like the one above this line.
The other is to put the keywords I have decided on in italics and bold in my articles.
I had gotten out of the habbit of cross linking and providing outgoing links but it's a habit I'm going to get back into
Some of the advice however is too difficult for me to follow.
I am never going to be able to check my site to see if spiders have managed to get all the way through it. I can't upload a Sitemap to my route directory because of Microsoft restrictions on the site they provide I would have to pay for software to do this, and I'm just not willing.
As I write the articles I'll post the links here on this page in the block above.
