These books have some good parts, but also some bad.
Asterix the Gaul
Although Asterix is funny and very well drawn, I don't like some of the racial and national stereotypes found within. They are enjoyable to read and a product of their time but I am not happy about them.
This book by James Cochrane can be pedantic and opinionated and it can also be wrong. For example he says,
"February. This has four syllables, the second of which begins with an r, but one would scarcely know this from the way it is pronounced by many speakers of British English."
If the word is pronounced Febuary by many native speakers then this is a correct pronunciation, even if James doesn't like it. But the book is at the same time very interesting.
