The Future
There are many ways to talk about the future depending on your mood
The simplest is to say will.
But we can also say, 'll, going to, gonna, is, might, may, could, should and would,
Lets take the example of talking about a friend called Bob and wondering if he will be at the party next Tuesday.
He will be at the party.
This is a prediction made with 100% certainty. I will be very surprised if bob is not there.
He'll be at the party.
This is the same as above but a bit shorter to say.
He is going to be at the party.
This is less than 100% but it is still very good. It means he plans to be at the party.
He's gonna be at the party.
This is the same as above but a bit shorter to say.
He is at the party on Tuesday.
When we use the present tense about the future it means that the party vist is in his schedule, it might even be something he does every Tuesday.
He might be at the party.
This means there is an element of chance involved, it's like will but not 100%
He may be at the party.
This means he will be there (100%) but something might happen to stop him.
He could be at the party.
This means he will be there (100%) but something needs happen to help him.
He should be at the party.
This means the chances are good of him being at the party, above 50%.
He would be at the party.
This is the same as will, we say would to show that we are making the prediction with incomplete information. He will be there 100% but we might be wrong about that.
