Spiralcat at the Movies

Here at Spiralcat we like our movies to be a little bit arty and intelligent like Be Kind Rewind or Two Days in Paris but we also can't resist an unashamedly dumb blockbuster now and then like Chronicles of Riddick or Hellboy. This mixture of the sublime and the ridiculous in our movie choices is what gives our selection its certain charm.

We try to review only the coolest movies, including;

WALL-E a review of a work of visual genius pure Pixar

Be Kind Rewind A cool independent movie with A-list stars.

Becoming Jane A nice but still intelligent costume romance

Memories of Matsuko A manga like Japanese movie which is heavy but enjoyable.

Star Wars Does this 70s classic need an introduction?

Outsourced A feel good movie about a controvercial global trend.

We don't always take too much notice of who the director is although there are some exceptions like Terry Gilliam and we are as likely to recommend something in black and white that doesn't appear on any list of classics like Plan 9 from Outer Space as we are to mention an undisputed must see like All About Eve. We are just as interested in first feature films like Outsourced as with the latest work of genius directors, like American Gangster.

Having said that we aren't usually big fans of gangster movies, although Training Day is a work of art. We also don't usually go in for zombie movies in a big way, but I Am Legend was to die for.

We include links to AMAZON where possible and we are investigating a download service to link to as well.
