Spiralcat Fiction, Comic Strips & Sequential Art
Sequential art covers a great deal of teritory from the funny comic strips of the daily papers like
Dilbert to the super serious graphic novels of modern publishing like
Maus.
Manga is of course one of the most fertile sources of sequential fiction and comic books. We love Manga and we will be reviewing lots of it but also the interesting fan communities that have sprung up round the genre like
the colourful Manga Fox site.
I think comic books and comic strips are one of the highest forms of fiction for a creator with illustration and writing skills to be producing. The combination of text and images in the sequential art gives a unique insight into the creative intention of the artist and the worlds they want to create. When you compare the art of a perfectionist like
Brian Boland with that of a comic book artist who allows more freedom in his work like
Mike Mignola, you'll see what I mean.
There have been other priorities at Spiralcat and there isn't as much comic book, comic strips and sequential art as I would like but we do have a couple of things.
We are also building a less humour based comic book called Planet Skrimshaw. The blog where this story is being built is here at the
planet skrimshaw comic book blog.
