The creator of SpiralCat is a UK Englishman who has spent far too long sitting in coffee houses reading at various different times newspapers, comic books and even novels from eras long past. This is of course the sort of thing that instills a love of reading, writing and story telling that goes very deep.
I am also teaching English, and at the same time learning German, in Vienna which gives me a real insight into the language I grew up with and which I love. it is a real joy to see English through the eyes of someone new to it and discover the things that others find hard about it, but also the things that are easy.
I have spent far too many hours of my life devouring the Guardian, In my opinion the best of the UK broadsheet newspapers, sometimes six hours at a time, examining and thinking about each article. And now, of course, that this website has given me a platform I can share my reactions to the stories of the day. we live in interesting times, and there is something to talk about.
Don't get me wrong. I think that the writing to be found in some movie, and even some of the better TV coming out of the USA, and to a lesser extent the UK, right now is at least as good as, and sometimes even better than, the best writing of the classics. For this reason there are a lot of reviews of, and musings on, popular culture, movies and TV, and I make no apologies for this.
By this token we also review websites, games, eBooks and just about anything we can get our hands on. There is also an awful lot of art and illustration featured in various places around the site. It#s important as inspiration, as a way to add interest to what can sometimes be dry text ans sometimes only a picture can tell a thousand words. We have photos, reportage, art, illustration, logos and diagrams among many other graphic elements spread through the site.
