Comic books including online comic books

The internet is the natural home of the comic book. Just think about it. Internet created by ... nerds, comic books created by ... nerds, putting the two together is only natural. Publishing costs have always been the bane of the comic book industry leading to cheep 4 colour printing on pulp paper. Publishing on the internet however can be free. Even when professional services and a bit of advertising is paid for it is anything but expensive. This means that the ocean of enthusiastic sequential art creating talent out there can share their work with us.

We at Spiralcat love on line comic books and will be reviewing and linking to them as we discover cool ones.

Comic books are very good at teaching language. You have pictures to help you understand the words. You can see what the characters are doing and talking about and this helps in understanding the grammar.

There are some free comic books included among the general online reading on my reading resources page.

Dilbert. What would Wally Do?

A great way to learn Business English. Dilbert is a lot like a comic strip, OK it is a comic strip but it also has stories that develop from strip to strip in a narative way and I have no problem including it in a selection of comic book stuff.

Ghost World?
A more grown up comic book. Very well drawn in an American stylised way that I love. The movie is very interesting as well and stars Steve Buscemi and a young Scarlet Johanson who are very well cast. There is some uncomfortable subject matter and there are no men in tights but really good.

Calvin and Hobbes

My favourite comic book characters.

I found this link to an online webcomic in a Google ad on my website. I haven't had a chance to really check it out yet but it seems well drawn.
