Becoming Jane
This was a surprisingly good film (wikipedia about the movie). From the trailer I had had it pegged as a simple romantic comedy with a possible subplot about finding your voice as a writer. It was that but it was a whole lot more besides. It was a quite political movie about having to find some way to survive and make money in this difficult and harsh world. Just like the original books (see below) this universal concern gives the movie a timeless quality.
Jane has a classic decision to make, should she chose the rich but dull man or the dangerous and interesting one even though he is poor.

She also dreams of becoming a famous writer who can support herself, which throws an interesting ingredient into this age old dilemma.
The dangerous but interesting guy also turns out to be less cool and dangerous than he seemed and the dull rich one has some surprises up his sleeve as well.
Anne Hathaway is absolutely convincing in the role and for everyone, like me, who first saw her in Princess Diaries it's lovely to see her again.
(Jane Austin's books are available free from project Gutenburg and include; Sense and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park and Emma.)
